Woman rushed to hospital after crash on A92

A woman was rushed to hospital following a two-vehicle crash on the A92 road in Fife.

The collision happened near Kirkcaldy on the eastbound section of the road, close to the Redhouse roundabout, shortly before 2.30pm on Friday.

Police confirmed one woman was taken to hospital by ambulance before the vehicles were recovered and the road reopened around 4.45pm.

A fire service spokesperson said three appliances were called to the scene and cutting gear was used to free the woman from the wreckage.

Motorists caught up in the traffic delays reported seeing several cars turning round and driving back along the dual carriageway, with pictures being shared in the Fife Jammer Locations Facebook group.

It is understood police on scene were directing cars to turn around in a bid to ease the traffic build up.

One person, Fiona Ford, posted in Fife Jammers locations to say: “People now driving along the motorway the wrong way. It is bedlam.”

Another person, David Russell, said: “People going up the slip roads the wrong way and stuck. Hopefully they don’t stop any emergency services trying to get onto A92.”

At about 4pm, Traffic Scotland tweeted that one lane had been reopened to traffic but that traffic was very slow on surrounding routes.

“The ambulance service was called to attend and the two vehicles involved were recovered.

“One woman was taken to hospital and the road reopened around 4.45pm.”

Details on the extent of the woman’s injuries have not been provided.
