The road outside the shop was closed with two fire engines and two ambulances in attendance.

The North West Ambulance Service has confirmed a woman was taken to hospital with a head injury.

One eye witness said they heard a 'loud bang' at around 1.25pm, they added: "It's always been a bad junction.

"The shop owner is lucky that he's normally closed on a Wednesday.

"The shop's only small inside and there's a waiting area as well, so anyone who would have been in there has had a lucky escape."

Police at the scene told LancsLive Cut-n-Dunn was closed at the time of the incident.

Wigan Road reopened just before 4pm.
