Woman rushed to hospital after being hit by car on busy road

A woman was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car as police close a major road.

Emergency services rushed to the A57 in Kensington between Sheil Road and Holt Road just after 7pm on Thursday, December 9 following reports of a crash.

Once at the scene Merseyside Police found a VW Polo car and a woman had been involved in a collision.

The North West Ambulance Service attended the scene and rushed the woman to hospital. The nature and severity of her injuries are unknown.

The driver of the VW Polo stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Police sealed off the street in both directions at around 7.20pm whilst emergency services deal with the incident.

The road is still closed.

Traffic monitoring service INRIX says: "A57 Kensington closed in both directions following an accident between B5188 Sheil Road (McDonalds) and B5173 Holt Road.

"The road has been closed since 19:20."
