A woman was rushed to hospital after being found under a railway bridge after an hour-long search.
Emergency services, as well as Southport Lifeboat and quad bikes, were called just before 10pm after reports of a "despondent female" on Ainsdale beach.
A rapid search of the beach was carried out, while a lifeboat conducted a tideline search.

Lifeguards later received a call from the police, suggesting the woman may be inland.
The on-land quad bikes made a move towards Ainsdale Nature Reserve and eventually onto the Coastal Road.
With help from Merseyside Police and Southport and Crosby Coastguard Rescue Teams, the woman was found under a railway bridge.
North West Ambulance Service confirmed an ambulance was called out.
Their spokesperson told the ECHO : "An ambulance went to the promenade, Ainsdale, following a 999 call at 21.49, following a report of a concern for welfare.
"A woman was taken to hospital."
Merseyside Police has been approached for comment.
