Woman robbed, beaten at Jackson Red Line station in Loop

Jackson Red Line station

The 34-year-old woman was walking down the steps when a man and a woman grabbed her from behind, Chicago police said.

Two people robbed and beat a 34-year-old woman Wednesday at the Jackson Red Line station in the Loop.

The woman was walking down the stairs to the station about 8 p.m. in the 200 block of South State Street when an unknown male and female came up behind her and grabbed her by the neck, attempting to take her backpack, Chicago police said.

When she tried to get away, the robbers threw her to the ground and punched her in the face before fleeing on foot with her backpack and other personal items, police said. They were last heading south on State Street and have not been located.

The woman was treated for a bruised eye, but she refused transportation to a hospital, police said.

Area Central detectives are investigating.
