A woman used a brandy bottle to batter her neighbour just minutes after asking for his help in quitting drugs.
Marion Kelly beat Paul Garner at his flat on Pecksniff Close in Toxteth on March 11 this year.
The two had been neighbours for a short period and on the day of the attack Mr Garner had invited the 57-year-old in after she asked him for advice on giving up drugs, something he had successfully done.

Yet after a short period Kelly became aggressive and started to hit Mr Garner with an empty brand bottle from which she had been drinking.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Mr Garner started to bleed as Kelly screamed "I batter men" during the attack.
Martyn Walsh, prosecuting, said both Kelly and Mr Garner had been drinking prior to the assault but did not detail the cause of the escalation.
He said: "She became aggressive and started striking him with an empty bottle of brandy.
"She said 'I batter men'. She then saw that he was bleedng and said 'Paul, I'm so sorry', and then stopped - but soon started again."
Kelly was later arrested and gave no comment interviews to police before pleading guilty earlier this year.
Mr Garner died of completely unrelated causes before the case made its way to court, meaning the full extent of his injuries in the long term was not established.
Paul Becker, defending, said Kelly accepted what she had done but Mr Garner's death meant the case had moved forward only on the basis of Mr Garner's description of events and immediate injuries.
He said: "It is an unusual situation advising a client where the complainant is sadly deceased.
"The prosecution then decided to move forward with a hearsay argument and that was only put forward last week."
Kelly has a range of previous convictions stretching back decades, including a number of battery and assault offences.
The judge, Recorder David Knifton, QC, said Kelly had engaged in a "prolonged assault" on Mr Garner.
Kelly, of no fixed abode, was jailed for 17 months after pleading guilty to wounding.
