Woman rescued from River Wansbeck in Morpeth and taken to hospital

A woman who fell into the River Wansbeck at Morpeth in the early hours was rescued and taken to hospital.

Paramedics were called to help the woman who had gone into the water just after 3.15am on Saturday.

A fire crew from Pegswood station along with a fire officer were also called to assist the ambulance teams.

When the firefighters arrived just after 4.25am, the woman was on the river bank and she was quickly passed into the care of the paramedics.

She was then taken by ambulance to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital in Cramlington.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 3.18am to reports of a person in the water at the riverside in Morpeth.

"We dispatched one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a double-crewed ambulance and we transported a female patient to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital."
