Woman rescued from Kilmarnock river after being found beneath a bridge

A woman has been rescued from a Kilmarnock river after being found in the water.

The 65-year-old was found beneath the Victoria Bridge on Queen's Drive yesterday morning shortly before 9am.

Police say that the woman was taken to Crosshouse Hospital shortly after being rescued by emergency services at the scene.

The condition of the woman is not known at this time.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 8.55am on Tuesday, September 15, police were called to a report of a woman in the water at the Victoria Bridge, Queen's Drive, Kilmarnock.

"Emergency services attended and a 65-year-old woman was helped from the water and taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment."
