Woman rescued from house fire in Forest Fields in the early hours

A woman was rescued after a fire broke out in a house in Forest Fields.

Fire crews were called to the incident in Berridge Road at around 5.20am on Monday, January 31.

Two crews from Stockhill and one from Arnold fire station were mobilised and dispatched to the scene, according to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

Crews were then able to rescue one woman by using smoke hoods - which work in a similar way to gas masks, allowing trapped people to breathe for 15 minutes while firefighters lead them safely out of buildings.

Two other people managed to escape from the fire unassisted.

Group Manager Andy Macey said: "This is another example of the great benefits smoke hoods are bringing to the service.

"In this case two of the individuals were lucky and could escape the property unassisted.

"We urge all residents in Nottinghamshire to ensure they have a working smoke alarm, and they have planned escape routes in the case of a fire."

Firefighters from Stockhill fire station will be in the local area on Tuesday, January 1 to provide reassurance and give fire safety advice.
