Woman rescued from house fire dies in hospital

A woman rescued from a house fire in Abergele, Conwy, has died in hospital.

The alarm was raised about a fire at a property at Gorwel just before 4pm on Tuesday (April 14).

Fire crews from Abergele and Colwyn Bay arrived at the scene and a woman was rescued from the property by police officers who were in the area and arrived quickly at the scene.

She was taken to hospital, but sadly she later died.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels and thermal imaging cameras to tackle the fire which caused severe fire and smoke damage to the lounge area and smoke damage to other rooms in the one-storey property.

Stuart Millington, from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of this lady during this sad time.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation in conjunction with North Wales Police - our appeal to everyone is to take extra care in regards to their safety in the home.”
