A woman was pulled from the Fox River Friday in west suburban Aurora.
Authorities received a call about 9:30 p.m. of a woman who appeared to be floating downstream in the Fox River near the New York Street bridge, Aurora police said. Multiple officers along with the Aurora Fire Department responded to the scene.
Crews set up on downstream bridges to search for the woman, and drones were dispatched to help in the effort, police said. About 11 minutes after the initial call, an officer saw the woman floating in the water in the 100 block of South River Street.
Officers Shane Leadbetter, Jason Contreras, Sgt. Jeff Talley and fire Lt. Steve Buono ran down to the bank of the river and pulled her out of the current, police said.
The woman was conscious and breathing, police said. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources closed the river to recreational boats on Friday through Aurora until further notice because of high water levels and increased currents, police said.
