Woman rescued from flat blaze and then arrested by police

A woman was rescued from a flat fire and then arrested in Salford.

The bedroom of the groundfloor flat on New Lane, Winton, went up in flames at around 3pm on Sunday.

The woman was rescued from the burning flat by firefighters. She escaped unharmed.

It's understood the woman was then arrested by police at the scene of the fire.

Firefighters spent three hours tackling the blaze and making the area safe.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 3pm this afternoon three fire engines from Eccles and Stretford attended a fire involving the bedroom of a ground floor flat in New Lane in Eccles.

"Firefighters wearing full breathing apparatus used hose reels, a fan and trauma gear.

"A casualty was rescued from the flat. We were there for three hours."

Greater Manchester Police said the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police, firefighters and the ambulance service attended to a report of a fire at an address on New Lane in Winton at 2.55pm today.

"There were no injuries caused by the fire.

"A female has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"A fire investigation has been launched."
