Woman rescued after being trapped 25ft down riverbank in Northumberland

A woman has been rescued after an incident near the River Tyne in a quiet Northumberland village.

Just before 4pm, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were called after a report of a woman trapped 25 ft down an embankment near Stephenson Court in Wylam.

Police, an ambulance, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a water rescue boat from Hexham assisted with the incident.

Specialist fire equipment was used and the woman was rescued at 4.32pm.

The North East Ambulance Service then took the patient to the RVI in Newcastle.

A spokesperson for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 3.51pm yesterday to a report of a female trapped 25 ft down an embankment near Stephenson Court in Wylam.

"Police and ambulance were also there, along with a water rescue boat from Hexham. Specialist fire equipment was used and the female was rescued at 4.32pm."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident on the riverbank in Wylam at 3.41pm yesterday afternoon. We dispatched an ambulance crew and our Hazardous Area Response Team, and transported one patient to the RVI."
