Woman repeatedly kicks police officer at Aldi and hurls homophobic abuse

A Speedwell woman repeatedly kicked a police officer and used a homophobic slur against him.

Samantha Beck, of Speedwell Road, attacked the officer at Church Road’s Aldi supermarket on November 30 last year.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to the assault and using abusive words, when she appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (August 18).

Prosecutor Laura Opie said Beck kicked the officer and tried to headbutt him while yelling drunken abuse.

The defendant used an obscene homophobic term against the officer, who is openly gay.

She shouted at police: “You f*****g little c***s. You r****ds.”

Steve George, defending, said: “This was a sustained assault with a shod foot. Ms Beck was last sentenced in 2017.

“That was when she was made subject to a community order with a suspended sentence and an alcohol treatment requirement.

“Ms Beck was heavily under the influence of alcohol in this case. An alcohol treatment programme may be an option again, because it appears to have kept her out of trouble for three years.”

Deputy District Judge Kevin Hill adjourned the case to September 8 for sentencing at the same court.

A pre-sentence report will be made to determine whether another alcohol treatment requirement is suitable.
