Woman removes face mask 'to deliberately cough in baby's face' in CCTV footage

A woman has been accused of removing her face mask to deliberately cough in a one-year-old boy's face.

CCTV footage of the alleged incident has been released by the San Jose Police Department in California, US.

The unknown woman can be seen taking off her face covering before she allegedly coughed in the direction of the child.

The boy's mum Mireya Mora is convinced the alleged incident at a yoghurt shop was not an accident.

She said everything happened so quickly and the incident has left her in shock.

Police are now reaching out to the public to help identify the woman.

Mireya Mora told ABC News : "She did it on purpose it's not like she did it on accident, oh cough, cough - no she purposely coughed on my son's face."

"It happened so quick I was in shock. She got close, she took off her mask, and she coughed three times super hard on my son's face."

She thinks the woman may have got annoyed because they were stood 'too close together' in the queue.

But Ms Mora also thinks the alleged incident last Friday could have been motivated by race.

"I believe this woman may be racist because the family in front of her is white. Me and my grandma are Hispanic and she started telling me about my distance and harassing me and my son once I started speaking Spanish to my grandma," Ms Mora said.

The mum said her son had a slight fever after what happened, but he was recovering and she was hopeful he would not contract coronavirus.

Police are trying to track down the woman who is believed to be in her 60s.
