Woman released by police after being arrested in connection with firearm incident in Ashington

A woman who was arrested in connection with a firearm incident has now been released from police custody.

The 25-year-old was arrested on Saturday after a man was allegedly threatened with a firearm in the street.

The incident, which happened near The Elephant pub on Newbiggin Road, in Ashington, was reported to police at around at 11.30pm.

Officers were told that a man in the area of Newbiggin Road was approached by a woman in a vehicle who went on to threaten him.

The victim was not injured and it was understood that those involved were known to each other.

The woman was arrested but released from custody on Sunday. However, investigations are continuing.

On Monday, a Northumbria Police spokesperson, said: "A 25-year-old woman was arrested and released in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting log 1300 080220 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
