Woman raped by colleague on fake promise of marriage

Bhopal: A 35-year-old widow was allegedly raped by a colleague for around two months in Kamla Nagar locality. When the survivor protested, the accused promised to marry her and later went back on his word. Left with no other option, the woman finally approached the police station on Thursday and filed a complaint.

The survivor stated in her complaint that her husband died three years ago. Since then, she has been working to earn her livelihood.

In May 2021, she got a job in Kamla Nagar locality. During that period of time, she met the accused colleague. He started chatting with the survivor and after a year in March 2022, he outraged her modesty, threatening her of dire consequences.

Police said that due to fear, the woman kept mum but when she protested, he promised to marry her and started sexually exploiting her. When she pressurised the accused for marriage, he refused and stopped talking to her. Acting on her complaint, a rape case was registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
