Woman quizzed by detectives after MACHINE GUN found on bike rider

A woman is being quizzed by police after a MACHINE GUN was one of two weapons being carried around on an electric bike.

The machine gun and a hand gun along with a small quantity of cannabis were seized after Matrix police swooped in Wavertree

The officers stopped three men, two who were on electric bikes, on Old Mill Lane in Wavertree on Wednesday evening after they were seen acting suspiciously.

The officers were carrying out patrols targeting people believed to be involved in organised crime at the time of the stop.

During a search of the male on the bike, officers recovered the loaded firearms, along with the drugs.

As officers attempted to approach the males they tried to flee the scene.

One of the males, a 33-year- old from Norris Green , who was on an electric bike was stopped immediately, whilst the male on foot, who is 34 years old and from the Fazakerley area, was arrested a short while later attempting to gain access to a nearby property.

The rider of the second bike escaped and was last seen heading down Wavertree High Street.

Now police have confirmed they have arrested a third person - a 28-year-old woman from Fazakerley .

She was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and taken into custody for questioning.

The 33-year-old man from Norris Green and 34-year-old man from Fazakerley, both arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, remain in custody.
