Woman punches victim in brutal cash machine robbery caught on CCTV

A robbery victim was punched by her attacker at a cash machine while passersby apparently ignored the assault, CCTV footage has revealed.

Video from east London shows the victim, in her early 40s, being hit and slapped repeatedly by another woman before the money she had withdrawn is stolen.

The victim pulled what appeared to be a wig from her attacker’s head before the thief ran off with the cash following the “shocking” assault in Leytonstone Road, Newham.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have appealed for information after the victim was set upon in the busy street area at about 3pm on 28 November.

Despite the ferocious attack, the victim emerged uninjured.

The images show that at least three people walked past the violence and did not appear to stop.

The suspect is described as a black woman, and is thought to be in her late teens. Police have appealed to the public for their help in tracing her.

Detective Inspector Steve Bluemore said: “This was a shocking attack in broad daylight and we know a number of people were passing at the time.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who recognises the suspect to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

No arrests have been made, the Met said.
