A woman was killed and a firefighter was injured when a house in the Pilsen neighborhood on the West Side went up in flames early Monday, officials say.

About 2 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire at a family home in the 1800 block of South Peoria, according to a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

A 48-year-old woman found unresponsive on the second floor was taken to Stroger Hospital in grave condition, the fire department and Chicago police said. She was pronounced dead later that morning.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t confirmed the death.

A firefighter was cut in the hand and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the fire department said. His injury was minor.

The fire was struck out about 2:20 a.m., the fire department said. CFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
