Woman pulled from water at Leeds City Centre docks in early hours of morning

Firefighters had to rescue a woman trapped in the River Aire in Leeds City Centre in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services rushed to dockland off Little Neville Street, Leeds after it was reported a woman had got wedged between a wall and a raking ladder at 1.20am today.

Police received reports that two women were in the River but one was out of the water when they arrived.

The casualty was rescued by Water Rescue crews and then handed over to paramedics.

Two Water Rescue Crews from Leeds and two fire crews from Hunslet helped extract the woman who was handed over to the Ambulance HART team.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival one female was out of water but one was still in the water wedged between a wall and a raking ladder."

The incident comes after 999 services have warned people to stay safe in the water after a recent spate of tragic drowning incidents in Yorkshire.
