Woman pretending to be police officer robs 58-year-old man in his own house

A man was robbed inside his North Shields home by a woman who pretended to be a police officer.

It is reported that a 58-year-old man was awoken by a woman knocking on his door at around 5am on September 28.

Upon answering the door of the property, on Rudyerd Street, the woman identified herself as a police officer.

On being given permission to enter the address, a man then followed her in pinning the victim up against a wall while the woman searched the flat and stole jewellery and tobacco.

Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for help in tracing the culprits.

The woman is described as 5ft 6in, long dark hair and wearing dark clothing.

The man, thought to be in his late 20s, is described as 6ft 2in, muscular build, wearing beige clothing and glasses.

Officers are now asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area or has information about the incident to get in touch via 101 using reference number 123345E/19.
