Woman ploughed car into her partner at 40mph following row after a night out

A woman who ran over her partner, hitting him at 40mph after a row in the street, has been jailed.

Kimberly Lawson had been on a night out in Margate, Kent with her partner, Paul Ioannou, when the pair started arguing.

Lawson, 29, got behind the wheel of her Peugeot car and drove at Mr Ioannou despite him shouting at her to ‘stop’, Daily Record reports.

Expert investigators estimated she was travelling between 39 and 45mph in a 30mph speed limit zone.

Mr Ioannou had to be airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition, with multiple injuries across his body and head, and was "fortunate to survive."

The incident happened in the High Street in Margate, Kent, at around 3am on August 24 last year.

Lawson was arrested at the scene where she told officers that she did not mean to hit him.

Appearing before Canterbury Crown Court on Friday, September 4, Lawson, of Vicarage Place, Margate, Kent, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She has now been jailed for a year and disqualified from the roads for three years and six months.

A judge ordered her to take an extended driving test before she can reapply for her licence following her release.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Tristan Kluibenschadl, said after the sentencing: "Lawson’s reckless actions resulted in her victim receiving life-threatening injuries and he was fortunate to survive.

"A car in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon and the custodial sentence imposed by the court will offer Lawson time to reflect on her actions."
