Woman picking blackberries with her toddler finds snake on the loose in Leeds

If you're scared of snakes, then look away now because a slithery serpent has been spotted on the loose in Leeds.

Elizabeth Owiredu, 31, saw the snake at around 6:30pm on Monday, August 5 while she was picking blackberries with her two-year-old daughter.

The startling discovery was made in bushes near Bramley Fall Park, just off Leeds and Bradford Road.

"I was so surprised when I spotted it," she told LeedsLive.

"I quickly stopped looking for ripe blackberries, took a picture so we could identify it later and planned our safe exit.

"My toddler, Phebe, kept trying to say: 'Hello Mr Snake' and was asking to touch it!"

Elizabeth - who runs Gold 'n Brown bakery in Bramley with her 30-year-old husband, Paul - posted a picture of the reptile in the community Facebook group leedsplace to warn people in the area about the snake.

While some people reacted with shock, others were quick to confirm that it was in fact a corn snake.

The reptiles, which are native to the United States, can grow to around five metres in length and kill prey by constricting it - but they are not dangerous to humans and are not venomous.
