Woman ordered to not dry laundry on balcony in 'appalling' note left by 'snob' neighbour

One way to alienate friends, neighbours, housemates and complete strangers is to leave them a petty note airing your grievances about something or other.

Notes should be fun, they should be sweet and uplifting - they shouldn't make you feel like a big bag of rubbish.

Sadly, one mum was confronted with such a note recently - and all because she occasionally lets her laundry dry on her balcony.

Not only was the note rude but it also showed a staggering level of snobbery.

Shared on Mumsnet , the note clearly reads: "No washing on balconies. This is not a council estate."

Ouch (mumsnet)

To add some context, the mum added: "We private rent in a block of 16 flats. The flats vary from rented to owned. We put our washing on two airers today on our balcony. No offensive clothing etc on show

"We came down to this message on the main front door. Are we being unreasonable!? Or is this person who wrote this note being unreasonable?"

People were completely appalled at the note, and many urged the mum to  come out fighting.

One woman suggested, cheekily, that "That would make me double my efforts. Position a blow up doll and a load of fetish wear out there. I bet there's no clause in the lease about that."

Another added: "If you're really not allowed then fair enough, although the council estate comment is totally snobby and unnecessary.

"However if there's no actual rule against it, I'd write p*** off on the note, and hang all my underwear out in full view pronto."

That said, a number also said that laundry drying on balconies was a bad look with one person writing:

"To be honest, the reason most blocks don’t allow it because it does look unpleasant.

"There is a sort of holy grail of things that make your estate look a bit s**t - laundry on balconies, old fridges in the garden, banged up old cars being repaired, etc etc.

"You can call snobbery but when it’s your property price going down you might not be so fast to criticise."

But even if that is the case, writing a note like this isn't the nicest way of dealing with it.
