Woman on UK to Pakistan flight opens emergency exit door thinking it’s toilet

A plane was delayed for seven hours after a confused passenger opened the emergency exit after mistaking it for the toilet door, according to reports.

The woman deployed the emergency chute and the departure at Manchester Airport had to be postponed.

And the 37 people travelling on the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight had a long delay on Friday night as the airline had to push back its slot.

Manchester Evening News says the rear emergency door was opened in the blunder.

Engineers had to be called to restore the exit after the tourists were offloaded.

The tourists at Manchester airport were offloaded so engineers could restore the exit (PA)

But reports the plane was on the runway when the incident happened are incorrect, according to officials at Manchester Airport.

PIA spokesman Mashood Tajwar told the Pakistan-based The Express Tribune that "there was no threat of any kind".

The MEN has contacted PIA for a comment.

It comes after a debate about plane etiquette sent Twitter into meltdown .

An American show started a poll asking if the person in the middle seat gets both armrests.

But more than 107,000 people took part in the Rich Eisen Show's poll, with hundreds of people voicing their opinions in the comments, explaining why they voted the way they did.

Many chose to quote comedian Jim Jeffries, saying: "When you're on an airplane, there's a thing called 'plane etiquette' and it goes like this. Window gets an armrest and a wall. Middle gets two armrests. Aisle gets an armrest and a little bit of extra legroom. We're not animals. We live in a society."

Those that agreed with this comment went on to say how giving up the armrests to the person in the middle was a "rule of travel", because their seat was worse than yours.
