Woman on Tinder uses Only Fools and Horses quotes as chat up lines

A woman who finds Tinder awkward and hates texting is using quotes from an iconic TV show to connect with Mr Right.

Ella, 24, says she uses one liners from one of the nation's favourite programmes, Only Fools and Horses, as chat up lines on the dating app.

The young beauty says she never knows what to say and now uses these classic hilarious lines to break the ice, reports MyLondon.

“My friend Tom recently used iconic EastEnders quotes as opening lines
to start a conversation on dating apps, and found that it was surprisingly effective.

“So I thought I’d take some one liners from one of the nation's favourite programmes, Only Fools and Horses, to see if I had the same success - because why not?,” Ella said.

Only Fools and Horses is a British sitcom classic (BBC)

Denzil

"We might go out, get to know each other a bit, you know. Might like each other then - who knows? - in time maybe she might do some ironing for me."

Top tier opening line. (MyLondon/ WS)

Definitely one to use again. Straight to the point and no circling around what you’re looking for.

Perfect to weed out the men who aren’t willing to do my ironing for me, and therefore saving so much time.

Score: 1000/10

Uncle Albert

"I’m the only one in our family who ever went to sea. Well, my grandmother’s brother was safety officer on the Titanic, but we never talk about it."

The classic line was a bit of a give away. (MyLondon/ WS)

I got caught out with this one and it did not work as hoped.

Maybe it’s too obvious of a quote for the keen Only Fools and Horses fans out there.

However, if you’re looking to start a conversation about said popular programme coming in with the classic line is probably a good place to start.

Score: 1/10

Del Boy

"There's no point in running away. Running away only wears out your shoes."

Probably best to not start a conversation like this again. (MyLondon/ WS)

I didn’t get any replies to this one - understandably.

I probably shouldn’t be opening a conversation by telling someone that there’s no point running away.

Coming in way too strong with the psycho vibes.

Best to keep those hidden until at least the third date.

Score: 0/10

"I am a black belt in origami."

Understandably led to some confusion. (MyLondon/ WS)

Definitely good to get a response from a likely confused recipient, but not enough to engage a proper conversation.

Score: 4/10

"Don't worry, Rodney. This time next year, we'll be millionaires!"

One can hope for Lady Luck to smile again. (MyLondon/ WS)

One of the better lines to use as an opener on a dating app.

Who doesn’t want to hear a bit of positivity that you hope to be a millionaire by next year.

Might lead to some disappointment when you don’t actually become a millionaire though.

Score: 7/10

“Everything between you and I is split straight down the middle: 60-40."

This guy was more concerned with the vegan note in her profile. (MyLondon/ WS)

A good line to get a response, even though it did seem to make people question my intelligence.

Score: 6/10

Verdict

Overall, it didn't get as bad of a reaction as you might think.

Would I recommend relying on TV quotes for all of your future dating endeavours? No, probably not.

But was it a fun way to spend an hour during a long, boring, dating-less lockdown? Definitely.
