Woman on mobility scooter in 'serious' condition after Yate crash

A woman on a mobility scooter is in a 'serious' condition after she was involved in a collision with a car.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to the scene in Yate at 10.35am today (August 29) following the incident, after which the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Westerleigh Road was closed in both directions between St Briavels Drive and Station Road after the crash, before reopening at around 2.30pm following an investigation.

A spokesperson for the force said: “An investigation was carried out at the scene and the road was reopened at around 2.30pm.

“If anyone has information about this incident, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221199643.”

The First Bus Y5 service in the area was temporarily diverted between St Briavels Drive and Station Road.

The full Avon and Somerset Police statement reads: “We were called at 10.35am to Westerleigh Road in Yate following a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

“The pedestrian, who was on a mobility scooter, has been taken to hospital for treatment where her condition is described as serious.

“An investigation was carried out at the scene and the road was re-opened at around 2.30pm.

“If anyone has information about this incident, please call us on 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5221199643.”
