Woman named Liz Trussell on Twitter embraces her name as Truss becomes Prime Minister

It's a big day for Liz Truss as she officially becomes Prime Minister. But it's also a big day for Liz Trussell, a woman who uses the handle @liztruss on Twitter, and has sparked some confusion. As politicians and high-profile leaders across the world try to tag the new Conservative party leader (whose Twitter handle is @trussliz), they keep mistakenly tweeting Liz Trussell instead.

And she is having A LOT of fun. Responding to one fuming Twitter user who wrote: '@liztruss demonstrates total absence of class by blanking Sunak when her win is announced’, she jokily replied: 'Sorry I was in Nandos’.

Sweden’s prime minister Magdalena Andersson tweeted a message of goodwill to @liztruss: 'Congratulations to Liz Truss, who will assume the role of Prime Minister of Great Britain. Sweden and Great Britain will continue our deep and extensive cooperation. It is important to our citizens, economies and security'.

'Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the Meatballs ready,' replied Trussell, who joined Twitter in 2009, before the MP could sign up.

Sky presenter Sophy Ridge shared her joy at the errors, tweeting that Trussell was “living her best life” replying to all the mistaken tweets.

Her experience is similar to American man John Lewis, who snagged the Twitter handle @johnlewis before the department store could, and often delights in replying to confused customers.

The Right of Centre UK news and current affairs magazine also congratulated Liz Trussell, writing: ‘Congratulations @LizTruss on becoming the new UK PM! Best person for the job!’

'Agreed’, Liz Trussell simply replied.

She also retweeted one fan, who wrote: "Liz Trussell who has the @Liztruss Twitter handle looks like an absolute hun! Can we please have her as PM instead?’

In another tweet, she wrote: 'Just getting ready to head up to Balmoral! Looking forward to meeting the Corgis.'

Former Green Party leader Caroline Lucas apologised for getting the pair confused, writing: 'Apologies, my previous tweet about #ToryLeadership should have been directed to @trussliz – not Liz Trussell who tweets at @Liztruss – tho frankly she’d probably make a better job of it’
