Woman mugged, knocked to ground and assaulted in late-night incident in Bandon, Co Cork

A woman was mugged and assaulted during a late-night incident on a Co Cork road.

The woman's handbag was stolen as she was knocked to the ground on Castle Road, Bandon.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses in relation to the incident which happened at 3am on Sunday.

It's believed the suspect is six feet tall and was wearing a black Puma jumper at the time.

A spokesman said: "Shortly after 3am, a woman was walking on Castle Road when she was approached by a male.

"The male stole her handbag, knocked her to the ground and assaulted her.

"Three men who were in the area at the time, happened upon the incident and came to the woman’s assistance.

"The woman did not require medical attention at the time of the incident. No arrests have been made.

"Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Castle Road area of Bandon between 2:45am and 3:30am on the 1st December and who may have witnessed the incident to contact us.

"Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may have seen the suspect that evening, to contact Bandon Garda Station on (023) 885 2200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station."
