A woman living about 50 metres from the five illegal fresh markets identified at Seri Villa housing estate in Prawet district, has complained that a new market has sprung up close to her house.
Her post on Facebook went viral and also made headlines.
Meanwhile, the chief of Prawet district office said he could do nothing, saying he has no authority to deal with the vendors since the area is considered a private road.
Ajapim Aroonlucksana, 47, wrote after posting pictures of unauthorised food stalls that emerged next to her fence: "I wish I could laugh but this isn't a joke. The house of those two women (who attacked a pickup with an axe) are being protected and the five markets were shut. But why are they [vendors] here next to my fence?"
The woman, whose house is opposite King Rama IX Park, was referring to the closure of the five fresh markets that were operating without permission around the house of two women who made headlines a few weeks ago by smashing a pickup truck that blocked the entrance to their home.
Pol Sen Sgt Maj Phanthip Reausichan, of Prawet police station, told the Bangkok Post that there were only 10 food-vending carts and municipal officials had told patrol officers that the vendors are being allowed to stay in that area until tomorrow only.
He said tough legal action will be pursued against those who refuse to leave.
But Thanasit Methphanmuang, the chief at the district office who said he could do nothing, said about 20 vendors, who were affected by the closure, had converted the spot into their new trading area while the rest have appeared from elsewhere.
He said the area in question was a private road, which was beyond his jurisdiction to intervene.
"I don't want to use force against them because they are trying to earn a living," he said.
