Woman 'missing' and man in hospital following early morning house fire

A MAN has been taken to hospital and a woman is “yet to be traced” following a fire at a house in a coastal village.

Four fire engines went to the scene in Seatown, Gardenstown, in Aberdeenshire, when the alarm was raised just before 5am on Thursday.

Police said the missing woman had been inside the building.

The man was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) and taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The fire was brought under control by around 7am but firefighters remained at the scene later in the morning.

In a statement, Police Scotland said: “We were made aware of a fire in the Seatown area of Gardenstown around 5am on Thursday September 18.

“One woman, who was within the building, is yet to be traced. One man was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Emergency services remain at the scene and inquiries are ongoing.”

An SAS spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 4.57am to attend an incident near Harbour Road, Gardenstown.

“We dispatched two ambulances and two special operations response team to the scene. We transported one patient to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
