Melbourne woman's body found after microlight plane crashes into Lake Eildon

A search operation is underway at Goughs Bay for the missing woman.

Emergency services officials have recovered the body of a 23-year-old Melbourne woman who was a passenger in a microlight aircraft that crashed into a lake in central Victoria.

The aircraft crashed into Lake Eildon at Goughs Bay, near Mountain Bay, about 12:30pm on Saturday.

The pilot, a man in his 40s, was rescued by a fishing boat and treated by paramedics before he was taken by road to Melbourne's Alfred hospital.

"Divers recovered the woman's body and the search has been ended for the night," police said.

"Officers will return to the scene [on Sunday] to recover the aircraft."

The woman from Vermont South, in Melbourne's east, has not been identified.

Investigators will return to the scene today to try and recover the wreckage.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
