Woman mauled by dog in London tower block rushed to hospital as beast seized by police

A woman is in hospital after she was mauled by a dog at a block of flats, police say.

The victim was rushed to hospital after the attack at a home in north London, with officers seizing the dog at the scene.

Emergency services were called to Herm House in Enfield on Friday morning over reports of the attack.

The Metropolitan Police said a live investigation was ongoing into the attack after a dog was removed to be tested to see if it was a banned breed.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were called at 7.34am on Friday, May 5, to reports that a woman had been attacked by a dog at a block of flats in Eastfield Road, Enfield.

"Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance. They secured the dog to prevent further harm to the public.

"The woman was taken to hospital with an arm injury.

"Her condition was assessed as not life-threatening.

"The dog has been seized. Further enquiries will take place to establish the circumstances and London's Air Ambulance she has been conveyed to hospital in critical condition."

The north London incident comes after a spate of recent reports of dog attacks.

One mum in Caerphilly, Wales, had to stamp on a dog as it attacked her young son and his friend whilst playing in a park earlier this month.

Meanwhile another woman in Wales says she was attacked while standing in an ice cream van queue in an incident which cause blood to gush from her leg.

Figures show dog attacks have been on the rise since the pandemic, with nine people killed in horrific incidents in 2022.

A poll by The Mirror has found Brits overwhelmingly backed tougher measures for dangerous dog owners, with 86 per cent said they would support the crackdown.

The vast majority also want all dogs to be licensed and microchipped and for the government to take action against unlicensed breeders.
