Woman 'lucky to be alive' after being stabbed in the neck in brutal Dublin attack

A woman is lucky to be alive after she was stabbed in the neck in a suspected mugging.

The victim, 48, is understood to have been walking home from work when she was targeted in a random attack near the CHQ building in Dublin city centre at around 9.30pm on Wednesday night.

A man on a bicycle is believed to have approached the woman and demanded cash, before fleeing towards the quays empty handed.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene and the woman was taken to Dublin’s Mater Hospital for life-saving surgery.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an incident where a woman in her 40s was robbed on January 20 at 9.30pm on Clarion Quay, Dublin.

"The woman received injuries and was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment."

The victim is believed to be an Asian woman employed as an office cleaner. Despite huge blood loss, she was able to call emergency services from her mobile.

Gardai have requested CCTV footage from nearby businesses as part of their investigation.

It is understood the attacker attempted to rob the woman and in the process stabbed her in the neck, leaving her in a serious condition on the street outside the Urban Brewing bar and restaurant.

Most businesses in the CHQ were closed by 3pm on Wednesday, with street facing bars serving takeaway closed by 9pm due to public health restrictions.

The area was believed to be deserted at the time.

Staff at eateries in the CHQ, which houses the Epic Emigration Museum, were shocked to hear of the violent incident when they arrived for work on Thursday morning where there was a large Garda presence at the scene of the brutal attack.

No arrests have been made and investigations by officers from Store Street Garda station are ongoing.
