Woman loses sense of smell and taste after thug boyfriend punches her in the face

A thug who punched his girlfriend so hard she lost her sense of smell and taste and broke a bone in her nose has been spared jail.

Jarred Christano Dos-Santos repeatedly struck Sarah Colquhuon after returning home drunk from a night out with friends.

When Ms Colquhuon tried to take a bottle of vodka off the yob, insisting more drink would be bad for him and his daughter, he assaulted her.

North Wales Live reports Dos-Santos also pushed the woman and grabbed her hair.

After she screamed, police were called to the address in Wrexham, north Wales and the thug was arrested.

But the electrician was spared jail on Friday at North East Wales Magistrates' Court and instead placed on a two-year community order.

He'll also go on a course for building better relationships and an alcohol treatment course run by probation.

Ceri Ellis-Jones, prosecuting, said the victim had been left in severe pain and had lost her sense of taste and smell.

Dos-Santos was also found to have her debit card, which had been used to make a fraudulent £40 purchase.

He was convicted of assault and fraud after a trial. During which, jurors heard the defendant had become alcohol dependent after his wife of two years died and he was diagnosed as bipolar.

Emma Simoes, defending, said  there had been delays in the case of over a year, but Dos-Santos wanted to co-operate with probation.

She said it would be in his best interests to receive assistance and he wanted to improve his life.

The judge also ordered the dad to pay £342 compensation to his victim and £200 prosecution costs.
