Woman left with severed artery and needing major surgery after 'extreme' water slide accident

On holiday in Bulgaria with her family, the last thing Jade Graves, 29, would have expected is to spend four days of it in hospital.

Whilst at the Aqua Paradise Water Park on July 25 last year, the woman from Hull severed her artery on one of the rides and was left needing a blood transfusion.

She also needed surgery and stitches after she injured her lower pelvic area on the ride with a 72ft, 90 degree plunge, reports Hull Live.

The incident left her breathless and feeling dizzy and was rushed to Life Hospital in Burgas.

She has maintained she followed the safety advice provided by the park.

As well as suffering from the severed artery, Miss Graves is also dealing with psychological trauma.

She said: "I still can't believe what happened to me on that slide. I was meant to be having a lovely holiday with my family but the whole experience has been traumatising.

"As I hit the water, I was in a lot of pain and I lost so much blood that I had to get a transfusion. It was a complete nightmare but the whole experience has been traumatising.

Miss Graves says she now wishes she never set foot in the water park and is calling for more awareness on the risks of water slides.

She said: "I am still uncertain as to what happened exactly because I followed all the rules put to me by the lifeguard. I really hope that the investigations can get to the bottom of it as I don't want anyone else to have to go through what I have.

"I wish I had never set foot in that water park."

Lawyers Irwin and Mitchell are investigating what happened to Miss Graves and she has since learned a nine-year-old girl from Russia allegedly suffered similar issues at the water park shortly before her.

Cheryl Palmer-Hughes, of Irwin and Mitchell, said: "This is a deeply concerning case where a young woman has sustained horrific injuries during what was meant to be a fun and relaxing time.

"Unfortunately we see a lot of these cases at this particular time of year, and Jade's life has been completely turned upside down with her suffering mentally as well as physically.

"We have now begun our investigation into the accident and are determined to get Jade the answers she needs to help her move forward with her life."

On its website, a description of the Space Jam water slide reads: "Only once is not enough! This time with more adrenaline - downhill from 22 metres height on a slope of 90 degrees.

"This is the second slide, on which you can feel the true emotion of extreme experience."

Just last month, David Briffaut, 23, was left paralysed following an injury on a water slide at a park in Benidorm on Spain's Costa Blanca. He broke two vertebrae in a freak accident as he slid head-first down the ride on July 8.

The Aqua Paradise Water Park has been approached for comment.
