Woman left with serious injuries after being hit by a car on Airdrie road

A WOMAN was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Whinhall on Hogmanay.

The 57-year-old was walking on Mavisbank Street, at its junction with North Bridge Street, at 11.15am.

She was struck by a black Ford Tourneo Custom and emergency services later attended the scene.

The woman was taken to University Hospital Monklands, where she was treated for her injuries.

Police are appealing for the public’s help relating to the collision, with Sergeant Craig McDonald of Motherwell road policing saying: “This incident happened on a busy road and we are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward with information.

“A woman has sustained serious injuries as a result of this crash and we are investigating the full circumstances surrounding this [incident].

“We would ask that if anyone has any information or dash-cam footage to get in contact with police.”

Police Scotland can be contacted on 101, quoting incident number 1072 of Tuesday, December 31.
