Woman left with broken leg after cyclist crashes into her at pedestrian crossing

An elderly woman was left with a broken leg after a collision with a cyclist at a pedestrian crossing. The 80-year-old woman was crossing the road on Manchester Road, Droylsden, when she was struck at 12.14pm on August 4.

Initial police enquiries suggest that the cyclist was travelling in the direction of Ashton-under-Lyne when the collision took place. The cyclist then left the scene, Greater Manchester Police have said.

In a Facebook post, GMP Tameside South and West said they are appealing for any information.

A spokesperson said: “At 12.14pm on Thursday 4 August 2022, there was a collision between a bicycle and a pedestrian on Manchester Road, Droylsden.

“Initial enquiries suggest that the cyclist was travelling along the road in the direction of Ashton-under-Lyne, when the pedestrian crossed the road at a pedestrian crossing and the collision occurred. The cyclist then left the scene."

Police Sergeant Andrew Page of GMPs Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This incident left an elderly woman in her 80s with a broken leg and we are currently investigating to establish the cause of the collision. We need the cyclist to get in touch with us to help us with our enquiries, so please, if you were the cyclist involved, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who may have dash cam or helmet footage is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111”.
