Woman left 'shaken' after man leapt out of bushes and chased her in Northumberland

An investigation has been launched after a man leapt out of bushes and chased a woman in Northumberland .

Northumbria Police received a complaint about the incident on St Michael's Avenue in New Hartley just before 8am on Monday.

A man was reported to have hid in the bushes near the telephone exchange, before jumping out and chasing a woman.

The woman was not injured in the incident but the force has confirmed she has been left 'very shaken' by the incident.

Sgt Christopher Ardley, one of the officers investigating the complaint, said: "We do believe this to be an isolated incident at this time.

"Extra patrols will be stood up in the area to offer reassurance while inquiries are carried out.

"I urge anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, to get in touch with us."

The man is described as tall, in his 40s, with short hair and wearing dark clothing.
