NHS worker leaves people split over driver's 'fat' text after dropping off kebab

Nine times out of ten, receiving a text from a stranger isn't welcomed, as it's usually spam or unwanted contact.

Occasionally - depending on the contents of the message - it can be something that raises a laugh.

Even rarer, however, it can be something genuinely nice to receive.

This was the case when a woman received a text message from her delivery driver after he dropped off a kebab.

But Sharon Passingham has split the internet after sharing the text message online - with some doubting the man's intentions.

The flattered NHS ambulance worker had complained about her weight to the driver – only for him to text her later to reassure her that ‘she’s not fat’.

Shannon Passingham had jokingly told the driver that she was concerned about piling on the pounds after eating the Sunday night treat.

So he sent her a quick message, which has gone viral on Twitter, and sparked a huge debate,

The ambulance worker shared the 'heartwarming message on social to show how 'nice' he was - but people were left divided.

Shannon tweeted: "I ordered food from the kebab (again) and when the delivery man come to my door I said omg I’m gunna get so fat and then he text me this," alongside a crying laughing emoji.

The text went viral on Twitter (Twitter)

The text said: "Hi u got me worried what u said bout getting fat don't worry ur not fat hope ur ok."

The tweet has been shared more than 17,000 times and racked up more than 370,000 likes.

Many were quick to praise the unknown man, hailing him "an angel", however others were left unconvinced.

One person joked: "The man we all need in our lives."

Another added: "THAT IS SO SWEET. He has probably struggled with or knows someone who has struggled with an eating disorder so he's probably hyper-aware of that kind of stuff so he wanted to reassure you."

A third commented: "The fact he checked on you and your mental health is so kind. The world needs more people like him."

But others disagreed and criticised the message forcing the woman to defend its contents.

One man tweeted: "No, he’s trying to get in her pants."

Another quipped: "He wants to put his penis in your Donna kebab, more like."

And a woman warned: "Be careful with that, I once had a delivery bloke hounding me via text."

Another social media user replied: "This whole interchange is informed by fatphobia and is hard to find funny when it's based on viewing fat as inherently bad.

"If the delivery person was fat would you still say that???

"Regardless, I hope that this man isn't being predatory and legitimately wanted to check in."

But Sharon, who has a boyfriend, replied: "F*** me, I only wanted to share that my delivery driver was nice."

Another person tweeted: "It was a lovely text. I hope it made you feel good! And I hope you enjoyed the kebab!"
