Woman left in tears after random act of kindness from 'generous' stranger in Lidl

A mother-of-two who didn't have enough money in her bank account to pay for her shopping was moved to tears after a stranger stepped in to help.

The woman, who suffers from chronic health conditions, was "counting pennies" until her social welfare application was approved.

She was in a Lidl supermarket on Saturday and thought she had enough cash in her bank account to pay for her groceries.

However, an unexpected direct debit payment from her account meant she had less money than she thought.

The mum was shopping in the Lidl supermarket in Southport in the UK when a man wearing a hi-vis vest stepped in and paid for her items.

"Instead of having £40 I had £30. He insisted on paying for it all, and wouldn’t accept the £30 I kept trying to offer him," the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Liverpool Echo.

"The end of the month is always hard especially with young kids it’s literally counting pennies.

"I got in my car and cried because he was so generous and polite and made me feel less embarrassed about the whole thing."

The woman posted about the heartwarming story on Facebook, which led to the generous stranger reaching out.

He said he wasn't interested in getting the money back, rather he wanted her to pass on a random act of kindness to someone else in need of help.

"He messaged me and asked me to continue the kindness by paying it forward to anyone else in need next month when I have a bit of money," she said.

"He was so kind about it and he spoke about being in the same position once. He was just so helpful and I was so embarrassed but he was so lovely about the whole thing."
