Once upon a time, catfishing was a new and jaw-dropping concept.
But online dating has been around for a while - and shows no sign of disappearing.
In fact, there's been a rush in users as society slowly reopens following a year spent largely at home.
So experiences of being catfished entered the mainstream a long time ago, in addition to all the other glorious dating red flags out there.
But Tanith Gregory 's experience is a little different.
The photographer left people with their jaws on the floor after she shared a man's very feeble attempt at catfishing.
She exposed the profile of 'fun and loyal' '48-year-old 'Andrew' who appeared on her Tinder last week.
But a rather obvious detail made it clear that 'Andrew' wasn't who he claimed to be
A photo on his profile was taken directly from a Google search for “Tim Johnson model”. Whoops!
The unknown user had failed to crop the screenshot, meaning it still showed the search term at the top of the page.
“If you’re going to go to the effort of catfishing people on Tinder, Andrew, at least go to the effort of cropping the Google search out,” Tanith joked in the video.
In the caption, she added: “How NOT to catfish 101.”
The video, which has since been viewed more than 320,000 times, left people in stitches at the crude attempt.
One joked: "Must try harder," while another commented: "And at least put someone who looks 48."
While most people were left unconvinced or, one person jokingly pointed out the potential explanation that the Tinder user could have for the mistake -that he just didn’t have any photos of himself.
A third joked: "Imagine this really is Tim Johnson and he googled a photo of himself because he doesn't have it in his phone, but forgot to crop it."
