Woman left fuming as husband gives £600 a month to mum who has £100k in savings

A woman has been branded 'greedy' by her husband after she confronted him about how much money he sends his mother who has £100k already in the bank. The person took to the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on Mumsnet to explain that she has always supported her husband in giving his mum this amount of money each month, until she found out how much she really has saved up.

In the post, the woman who remained anonymous said: "He told me that he was sending £600 a month to his mum to help her financially survive. She is a widow with (at that time) a small kid, not working and struggling to make ends meet.

"Her lifestyle reflects this description. I said it was ok with me. Many years later we are a family of 4 and he is still sending 600/ month to his mum."

However, recent revelations have left the woman feeling lied to and betrayed as it does not seem the mother is strapped for cash.

The author of the post explained: "Today I found out that my mother-in-law has more than 100k in savings. I was shocked.

"I reacted badly to this news. I felt like a joke. I told him I felt absolutely disrespected and lied to. The amount we are giving her is not substantially changing our lifestyle."

To make matters worse, the amount of money that the husband has been giving his mum has stopped the family from being able to afford certain things.

The wife explained: "I would love to hire a cleaner since we had kids but we cannot afford it."

However, in response her husband feels she is being greedy and has stated his disappointment that she cannot agree with sending the money each month.

In response to the post, many have been quick to support the wife with one saying: "Yes, that's really weird. 100k savings has a huge bearing on this."

While another said: "Surely her savings are to help her afford to live why should your household supplement hers!"
