A woman left her childhood friend with a severe genital injury by hitting him with a garden tool over a small debt.
Thug Corrina Mills, aged 42, distracted Russell Tierney then swung a garden utensil towards his groin, causing an agonising and serious injury to his testicle.
The sensitive area was left swollen and bruised, with Mr Tierney having to seek medical attention in hospital, as reported by Chronicle Live.
Meanwhile Mills, from Shiremoor and who claimed that she was owed £48 by the victim, had bragged to a friend that she had "battered" him.
Mills has now been handed a suspended jail sentence at Newcastle Crown Court.
Kevin Wardlaw, prosecuting, said she had originally been charged with attempted GBH with intent but a guilty plea to assault occasioning actual bodily harm was accepted.
Mr Wardlaw told the court: "They had known each other as school friends.
"It appears the catalyst was a sum of £48 which Mr Tierney owed the defendant."
The attack happened on December 13 2019. The victim thought she had used a rusty axe on him but she pleaded guilty on the basis it was a trowel on a pole, used to plant flowers.
She lured him outside and distracted him by telling him to "look over there" then swung at him.
Mr Wardlaw said: "He blocked the blow but she swung again and struck him in the lower abdomen and testicle, causing injury."
Mr Tierney later experienced a lot of pain and had to seek hospital treatment.
In a victim impact statement, he said he was still in some discomfort and added: "I keep having flashbacks and a recurring dream she hit my head with an axe then I wake up with palpitations.
"I avoid sleep because of the dreams and I feel tired all of the time.
"I still have a lump on my left testicle, which I'm seeing a doctor about."
Mr Wardlaw said that after the assault, Mills texted a friend saying she had just "battered Russell".
Mills, who has three previous convictions, was sentenced to 13 months suspended for 18 months with a two month curfew, £250 compensation, rehabilitation and a five-year restraining order.
Recorder Andrew Latimer said: "From the pictures, it's obvious he is someone who was going to be in a great deal of pain for some time."
Barry Robson, defending, said: "She has known him since they were children, they were at school together yet she's being sentenced for a serious assault on him.
"That's not the Corrina Mills, the person who committed this act, that's not who she is."
Mr Robson added that she has been getting help, looks after her mother and will stay out of trouble.
