A woman knocked out her boyfriend's two front teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniel's after an argument.
Magdelana Sraskowska, from Liverpool, spat at Alexander Brady and hit the back of his head, before launching the whisky at his face.
The 28-year-old avoided being sent to jail after recorder Paul Reid QC, said he believed there had been a "background by way of provocation".
She launched the attack on December 21 last year after she and Mr Brady returned home from a night out and started arguing, the Liverpool Echo reports.
Sentencing Sraskowska, the judge said an initial common assault "wouldn't have led to any further issues had it not been for what followed".
The judge explained that "a bit later that evening" the pair had an argument about Sraskowska "possibly arriving late at a meeting".
Liverpool Crown Court heard Sraskowska "spat at him" before she "hit him on the back of his head when the two of you were back home".
Recorder Reid said: "There was a further argument during the course of which you hit Mr Brady in the face with a bottle of whisky."
The judge explained that Mr Brady's two front teeth were knocked out as a result of the attack.
Peter White, defending, asked the judge to consider that Sraskowska has no previous convictions.
He explained that she would be able to comply with unpaid work and Rehabilitation Activity Requirements if the sentence was suspended.
Mr White said: "She would also have the support of the probation service in addressing the background issues from her past, for which she is in no way to blame."
Mr White also asked the judge to consider that there is a low risk of reoffending adding "she is deeply remorseful".
Sraskowska, of Kensington, had previously admitted common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, Kenneth Grant, prosecuting, explained.
Sentencing Sraskowska the judge said "I can't form a judgement as to what went on in your relationship between you and him", adding he had been urged to take the view there was a "background by way of provocation to cause you to react in the way you did".
Sraskowska was handed a 12 month jail sentence suspended for 18 months and must complete 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirements and 100 hours of unpaid work.
She must also pay her ex £250 in compensation.
