Woman knocked over by bus in Cardiff city centre

An elderly woman was knocked over by a bus on a busy Cardiff road.

Emergency services were at the scene on Wood Street, near Southgate House, on Thursday afternoon. The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital. Her injuries are not reported to be serious.

There was heavy traffic in the area and diversions were in place for a short time.

One man who didn’t want to be named, said : "I was walking over for my lunch when I heard the bang. I didn’t see it as I was looking the other way but ran to help her. It’s such an awkward junction to cross."

Cardiff Bus said they are aware of the incident.

A spokeswoman, said: "We’re aware of an incident taking place earlier today on Wood Street and are liaising closely with the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.”

"We responded with one emergency ambulance and one patient was transported to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service, said: "A Welsh Ambulance Service’s Spokesperson said: “We were called today at approximately 1:55 to reports of an incident involving a vehicle and pedestrian on Wood Street, Cardiff.
