MARGAO: A 36-year old woman killed her 14-month-old baby in the wee hours of Sunday at her residence in Goa's Chicalim, and later attempted suicide by slashing her wrists. Following which she drove to Zuari bridge from where she jumped into the river.
However, her bid to end her life was foiled by a construction contractor who noticed her and mobilized men and resources to rescue her. She was admitted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim where she is undergoing treatment.
Sources said that the women's spouse is working in Germany. While it is learnt that the woman was suffering from depression, police said they were yet to confirm that.
"The motive behind the murder is not known yet. Post mortem report will reveal how she killed the baby," a police official said.
Vasco police are investigating the case.
