Woman killed on Sligo road named as Bridget Anne Flood as funeral mass held for 'gentle' lady

A woman who died in a road incident in Co Sligo last week is being remembered as the "most loving and gentlest soul".

Bridget Anne Flood was laid to rest after her funeral in St Joseph's Parish Church in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow today.

It is believed she died after being struck by a vehicle. Gardai and emergency services attended the scene on the N15 at Moneygold near Grange just after 10pm on Tuesday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

She has been named locally as Bridget Anne Flood.

Dozens of people took to RIP.ie to pass on their condolences to her family.

One person wrote: "You were the most loving and gentlest soul and you are already greatly missed. Sligo will never be the same again,, we have just lost the heart of Sligo."

Another added: "You will always be remembered through you beautiful children."

While a third said: "Bridget we have been blessed having your amazing children as part of our life -thinking of all the Flood family at this sad time."

Addressing the congregation at her funeral mass on Monday, the parish priest at St Joseph's Parish Church said: "Her death was tragic, hard for all of you. You all know Bridget. You saw the love that she had for you and at times it may have been difficult for her to show that love.

"The love that you have for one another is so important. It's love that helps us at a time like this to be supportive of one another. We never know when someone is going to die and we would like life to go on. How Bridget died was so unexpected and that adds to the sadness.

"She had her difficulties, her challenges in life and she tried to overcome those challenges."

The death notice reads: "Bridget Anne Flood tragically passed away on the 16th February 2022.

"Predeceased by her brother John Paul.

"Sadly missed by her loving mother Catherine, stepfather Dick, partner Jimmy, her children Kieran, Simon, Jessica, Leanne, Connor and Calvin, brothers Patrick and Edward, sisters Niamh, Cora, Elizabeth and Katie, relatives, neighbours and friends."
