A woman was killed and a man wounded in a domestic related shooting Saturday at an apartment in West Rogers Park on the North Side.

Laura Helton, 49, and the 28-year-old man were inside an apartment about 3:30 p.m. in the 6200 block of North Ridge Avenue when someone fired shots at them, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Helton was shot twice in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 3:48 p.m., authorities said. She lived in West Rogers Park.

The man was shot once in the elbow and taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was stabilized, police said.

An autopsy Sunday ruled Helton’s death a homicide by multiple gunshot wounds, the medical examiner’s office said.

The shooter is known to police and the victims but is not in custody, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. Area North detectives are investigating.
